Well this week has been really hot, in the low 90’s all week long and the wind is gone.  What this means is that you need to do your fishing early in the morning  or late in the afternoon during this kind of heat.  The mid part of day the water temperatures are up and the fish are taking a siesta. 

The bite this week has been outstanding, we have had a full moon this week and the night time Tarpon and Snook fishing has been nothing less than fantastic.   We are also getting a lot of the big Snook early in the mornings.  FWC has declared Snook season closed except for catch and release in Monroe County, Everglades National Park and the West Coast of Florida until August 31, 2012.

I know that some of you don’t like this closure, but as a guide who fishes these waters daily, I am not seeing any small Snook whatsoever.   Which means,  that we have no future stock of Snook to take the place of the ones that would be kept, if the season were to be open.  So lets hope that the breeding of the Snook population will bounce back. So please, if you are catching Snook and releasing them, please handle with extreme care.

As far as the Tarpon are concerned, they seem to be everywhere right now.  We are also catching them in the day time, but by far the night time bite is much better.  Spotted Sea Trout bite this week has also been excellent, FWC is talking about raising the daily limit and shortening the closed season.

This week it’s still been very windy, but the fishing in the back country has still been fantastic.  We had a family of 4 on Sat. and started out catching at least 75 Sea Trout, anywhere been 13 to 19” in length, we also caught and released a 100 pound Tarpon, then to round out the trip we went up to Barns Sound where we caught and released a nice Snook and more trout. 

 The nice thing about fishing the backcountry of the Florida Keys is that no matter what the winds are, we can always find places to catch quality fish and have lots of fun.

This summer is starting out to be one of the best fishing seasons in years.

The word for this week is” WINDY”.  It has been blowing like stink all week long, the good thing about the Florida Keys fishing the backcountry is you can always find a place out of the wind to catch quality fish. We have had a great bite on Spotted Sea Trout again this week.  And with the wind this week we have been targeting Snook, and I have to tell you that they are getting real big and real fat.  We been catching them on live bait and lures.  Also still a lot of Tarpon are around, been a bit harder to catch them with it so windy.

The weatherman says the winds going to continue thru the weekend, but will drop by Monday, but you know how the weathermen are, their guess is as good as yours.  We still have a few dates available for June and July, so if want to get out and fish the backcountry and see some great sights, give us a call.

Well the weather has been great again this week in Key Largo, water temperatures has comes down a little this week, 79 to 80 degrees,

This week the Spotted Sea Trout is still great, been catching a lot of them in the back waters. Also the Snook bite has been fantastic both day and night.  And of course the Tarpon, (My Favorite Fish to Catch),  the bite has really been on in the early evening just around Sunset.  Also we have been catching them in the early morning hours(before Sunrise) .   This is just the beginning, the Tarpon bite should remain good right thru August.  So if you ever wanted to catch a Tarpon, now’s the time.

Well this week has been kind of crazy with our weather, the morning has been starting out nice and calm, then in the afternoon its been picking up to around 20 knots.  The weekend looks like its going to  really be good about 10-15 knots out of the southeast. 

The fishing has been fantastic, Spotted Sea Trout, anywhere from 14 to 22 inches.  We have been doing some night time Tarpon fishing, and have had some really good luck with Tarpon over the 100 pound range.

The big Jacks has been all over the main channels and if you really want to have some fun, try these Jacks on light tackle.

Also the Snook bite has been good, we been catching Snook up to 33” in length and once again folks, Snook fishing is strictly catch and release in Monroe County.

Key Largo Tarpon Charters

Well, summer is definitely here!  Temperatures have been in the high 80’s all week and water temperatures of 84 ½ degrees.   The good new is the wind is gone.   We have had 5 to 10 knots all week and looks like it will continue til the end of the week.

This week the fishing is all about TARPON!!   The bite has been outstanding. We have caught Tarpon up to 150 pounds this week.  I have had some very happy customers.

 The good news is that this is just beginning and  the Tarpon fishing will only get better.  

 The TROUT bite has still been very good, with trout between 13 and 22”, being caught and released.

 The Jack Crevalle have also been running.  We have been catching them up to 15 pounds this week on light tackle, what a battle that is.  Just a lot of fishing fun.

 Again this week we have caught a large number of  Sharks,(Bulls, Lemons, Spinners and Nurse Sharks.

The Big Tarpon are here, at this time they are still on Ocean Side and in the channels leading from the Ocean.  They are primarily eating mullet.

Also the Permit bite is really picking up, they have  been a little hard to find with the high winds that we have had this week. 

This week I have had the honor of fishing with Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia and 3 of his good friends.  We went to Flamingo, found a great bite of Spotted Sea Trout and just had a really good time.

Sunday and Monday of this past week the winds were less than 5 knots and we found very large numbers of Bonefish in the flat of Upper Key Largo.

We have had another beautiful week here in the Florida Keys.   The wind has really been blowing this week, but we have been fishing everyday and catching lots of fish.

Glad to see the end of March, means we are that much closer to Tarpon season.  I have been seeing a lot of Tarpon this week along the islands and shore lines of the upper Keys. 

The wind has been blowing so hard this week that we actually caught 2 sailfish in Adam Cut on live pin fish and jumped off one Blue Marlin.   Amazing to see these fish in 6 feet of water.  Okay, just kidding, April Fools:-)

Now,  for the fishing report, Again this week we started out with a fantastic catch of very large spotted Sea Trout.

The water temperature has been 77 to 80 degrees and the big Snook and Tarpon has really started showing up.

The bite has been a little tough on the Snook and Tarpon with the high Westerly winds that we have had this week,   looks like it will carry thru the weekend. And lets hope that things start to calm down

There has been a lot more Redfish again this week, and the big Jacks are in the back country, even the Sharks have been hiding in this west wind.

Lets hope April brings us calmer weather and let’s get to the Tarpon fishing.

Again this week we started out with a fantastic catch of very large spotted Sea Trout and even had reports of one up to 27″ in length.

This week the Snook bite has really picked up, we have caught them up to 14 lbs.

There has been a lot more Redfish again this week, in the 18″ to 22″ range.

The big Jacks are back, and they are a lot of fun to catch.  You can usually see them coming with a large push in the water and they are tearing up all the bait fish that are in the area.  Just cast a plug or even any kind of bait and hang on.

Also, this week we have caught some nice size Bull Sharks in the Upper Key Largo area.  They are coming in targeting the trout that we are catching, so I always keep one rod set with a wire leader and 8/0 circle hook, to really have some fun.

The smaller tarpon are starting to show up in the upper keys and in another 3 or 4 weeks Tarpon fishing should be very good.  Can’t Wait!!!!!!!!!!

There are a lot of Redfish and Snook along the shore lines of Upper Key Largo.  Just another friendly reminder that Snook season is closed until September in Monroe County, but we can still catch and release.

This week, we have had a great bite of Permit.  On Thursday we released two in the 20# range and earlier in the week we caught several other Permit in the 5-10# range, all of them were caught on live shrimp.

Summer is here, water temperature is getting warmer and fishing is getting ready really turn on.

The smaller Tarpon are starting to show up in the Upper Keys and the big ones will be right behind them.  Can’t Wait!!!!!!!!!!!
